Jonathan R. Preszler, PhD
TRIA Research and Education Center Investigator
About
Dr. Jonathan Preszler is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and Research Investigator at TRIA Research and Education Center. He began research as part of his PhD from Washington State University primarily focusing on neurodevelopmental variations and outcomes, with a particular focus on novel modeling techniques to understand these. He received his PhD after completing a predoctoral internship at Children鈥檚 Minnesota, subsequently completing a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sport Concussion program, where he completed both clinical work and research with mild traumatic brain injury.

Since completing his fellowship in 2022, Dr. Preszler has worked with Sanford Health in Bismarck, North Dakota, before beginning at TRIA Research and Education Center in 2024, and he now occupies both positions. Prior to joining TRIA, his research primarily focused on outcomes and recovery following concussion, as well as effective assessment post-injury.

Joined the Institute: 2024

Education and training: PhD in 2020 from Washington State University, including training at Children鈥檚 Minnesota. Two years of postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Concussion Program.

Affiliations/other offices held: Sanford Health.

Overview/research interests: Dr. Preszler鈥檚 research has focused on outcomes after concussion, particularly in the context of specialty care and multiple injuries, as well as factors complicating assessment or recovery, such as delayed onset of symptoms and parental factors. He has recently engaged in research of biomarkers of concussion and their interaction with other health-related factors (e.g, BMI), and is particularly interested in developing more effective assessment in adult populations with mild traumatic brain injury.

Current research activities and funding:
鈥 Emotional symptoms after concussion and related outcomes
鈥 Assessment of concussion using symptom profile approach
鈥 Similarities in concussion symptoms in patients with repeat injuries
鈥 Improved assessment of concussion in adults
鈥 Concussion biomarkers
