Information for the practicing orthopedist regarding epidemiology of common musculoskeletal conditions and how male and female patients may present differently. This exhibit provides information for the practicing orthopedist regarding epidemiology of common musculoskeletal conditions and how male and female patients may present differently. Studies have shown that training can enhance women's balance and decrease falls - in athletics and in older age; this exhibit will also focus on the importance of training and rehabilitation and the effect on improving and enhancing balance. This exhibit will explore the biological and social differences in presentation between male and female patients for various common musculoskeletal conditions. Sex differences will be examined in three areas of orthopaedic interest and common disorders, diseases, and injuries will be addressed: CMC arthritis, Shoulder instability, Frozen shoulder, Hip Dysplasia, Femero-acetabular implingement, Hip Arthritis. An interactive display on balance exercises and on rehabilitation programs for athletes and elders will also be a part of the exhibit. Epidemiological data support the identification of specific presenting features in both men and women, which may provide valuable information for more accurate diagnoses. Biological and social differences exist between males and females for various common musculoskeletal conditions and should be considered when diagnosing and treating patients.
