About

Colin Woodard is a strategic thought leader, think tank project director, scholar of nationhood and nationalism, and New York Times-bestselling author of books on the American condition and struggle to create a liberal democracy. Manager of highly-collaborative public interest and messaging projects on two continents and Polk Award-winning investigative journalist and former foreign correspondent with field experience in failed states, conflict zones and diverse cultural environments. He is a sought-after speaker with extensive media experience. Woodard is the Director and Founder of the Nationhood Lab, an interdisciplinary research, writing, testing and dissemination project focused on counteracting the authoritarian threat to American democracy and the centrifugal forces threatening the federation’s stability. His work changed contours of debate on gun violence, life expectancy, health, and other public policy issues.

Colin has been awarded Fellowship in the Royal Geographical Society, was recognized as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Reporting, received the George Polk Award in 2013 - the highest honors in US journalism - and has published 6 books.
